An artist is the culmination of all their stories and lived experiences.

These moments inform the artist’s work and color their lens. A long life spent in observation gifted Anita unrivaled compassion for her subjects, friends, students, loved ones and herself.

She translates these moments onto paper for the viewer to be engulfed by feeling.

Anita is a documentary drawer, storyteller, teacher, illustrator, and life-long artist. Her use of text and quick gestures exude vibrant energy.

Her work is about moments, memory, and beauty, with reflection on inner and outer journeys.

Observation and reflection are the beginning of Anita’s process; she sees, translates, and paints.

She paints through life’s challenges, knowing “nothing is so scary you can’t draw it.”

A colorful illustration of a group of people in a dance or celebration, with some holding signs that say 'OLE.' There is a woman in the center raising her arm, and others are clapping or dancing. The words 'Such Intensity' are written in the bottom right corner.
A watercolor illustration showing a girl with blue hair reading a book titled 'A Tale Full of Wondering,' surrounded by question marks and colorful patterns.

Anita draws on reminders that laughter is a gift, making unexpected humor a major part of her work.

Pure joy is palpable.

Documenting recent immigration court trials has garnished Anita public recognition for her illustrations of a disparate system.

The Immigration Court Observation Project in collaboration with The Advocates for Human Rights recognized Anita for her works detailing the harrowing stories of families and people in transition through America’s immigration system.

A watercolor sketch of a courtroom scene with a judge at the bench and two women lawyers, one speaking on the phone. The judge has curly hair, glasses on her head, and a black robe, with a sign behind her that reads "Scales of Justice." One lawyer is shown with a note saying "2. speak Spanish," and a paper with the note "My situation changed. I do not have enough $ for a lawyer." The other lawyer is referred to as "Government Attorney." There are handwritten questions and notes about immigration and legal processes, with doodles of question marks and references to immigration agents and the court.
A colorful sketch depicts a man sitting on a bench by water with a woman next to him. The man has curly hair and a mustache; the woman has straight hair. The background contains notes and dates, including July 22, 2025, and references to neurology appointments with Dr. Trena. The sketch includes annotations about memories, appointments, and health observations like Parkinson's tremors. The water has wavy lines, with notes about a last visit in April 2025 and the water rising. The scene appears to be in a waiting room, with text and illustrations surrounding the characters.

Caretaking for family, life abroad, bodies of water, flowers, and philosophical musings have been continued themes in Anita’s work.

Anita spent long stretches of time in far-off locals like the British Isles, Aran Islands, Mexico, Romania, Laguna Beach, and Berkley. These new places expanded her vision for life.

Anita began Amaranth Art Studio to host amateur artists and community members of all levels who wish to explore their creative abilities.

Anita loves connecting with her students and encouraging them to try new techniques and take risks in art making.
